A UN official said Trump and Rouhani might meet this year when the UN General Assembly convened in New York in September.
A senior official in Iran said in July 18th that at last year's United Nations General Assembly, the United States had sent an invitation to Iran eight times in the hope that Rouhani could meet Trump, but all of those invitations were rejected by Iran. Since then, Trump has taken various measures to isolate Iran. On May 8, Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Iranian nuclear agreement and restart sanctions against Iran in spite of opposition from other UN members.
