On October 24, the US Secret Service said in a statement on the same day that it intercepted two suspicious parcels sent to former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Hillary Clinton in the evening of the 23rd and early morning of the 24th, respectively, and that the parcels may contain explosive devices.
However, neither Obama nor Hilary had access to these suspicious packages. The Secret Service detects possible explosive devices in the package during routine mail checks and then starts the processing program.
According to the Associated Press, when the package was found, Hillary herself was not in her residence in New York, but in Florida to participate in the Democratic campaign. But sources said the former president Clinton was at home in New York. After hearing the news, Hillary, who was in Florida, said everyone was fine and thanked the Secret Service for blocking suspicious packages in time.
In addition to the two suspicious parcels above, the CNN office in New York also found the suspicious parcels, and everyone was evacuated. CNN anchors were broadcasting news of suspicious parcels to Obama and Hillary, and the evacuation alarm rang.
The package to CNN contained a suspected explosive device and an envelope containing white powder, New York Police Chief James O'Neill told a news conference. John Miller, the top counter-terrorism official at the New York City Police Department, said white powder was being tested to determine whether it was dangerous.
Earlier, sources said similar bomb packages were sent to the White House, but were also intercepted. The secret service later denied the news, saying that no suspicious parcels were found in the White House.
Burns, vice president of the United States, condemned the act on twitter, calling it "mean and intolerable". President Trump then relayed Burns'tweets and told subsequent White House events that he would thoroughly investigate the matter.
